Farther today announced the addition of Kai Conragan as Vice President, Head of UX, and Allan Smith as Vice President of Product. Based in California, Conragan and Smith will lead the continuous upgrade of Farther’s proprietary Intelligent Wealth Platform, enhancing a product experience that frees advisors to better serve their client base.
Kai Conragan joins Farther from Google, where he spent 15 years on UX for Google Search, building a global team that scaled Search to one of the most widely used software products in the world as it evolved from desktop to mobile to AI. During his tenure at the company, Conragan helped launch an array of products including Knowledge Graph, Google News, Gboard, and Gemini in Search.
In his new role as Farther Vice President, Head of UX, Conragan will implement a “design-first” approach to advance the frontier of usability in intelligent wealth systems.
As Vice President of Product, Allan Smith will support Farther’s product-focused initiatives. As a systems engineer, he served as a Rapid Response Space Program Director at NASA, and as Head of Hardware R&D at Facebook (now Meta), building the latter organization’s Area 404 hardware lab from scratch and designing its High-Performance Computing (HPC) prototyping environment. He also co-founded Syvius, a machine learning company that built athlete performance optimization systems for both the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee and the National Hockey League.
“Technology should expand what advisors and their clients can do, not replace them,” says Brad Genser, Farther co-founder and CTO. “Kai and Allan have the right set of skills to bring together deep engineering and usability.”
Why They Chose Farther
Conragan and Smith selected Farther for the firm’s approach to building in-house technology to overcome long-standing industry inefficiencies — gaps formerly in the way of freeing advisors to do what they do best: advise. The pair was drawn to the company’s commitment to keeping the personal element of wealth at the core of its business model.
“Farther is spearheading an approach to fintech that establishes trust and transparency between advisors and clients. I’m excited to bring world-class, user-friendly design to systems that do the work, and to see them transform this industry,” says Conragan.
“At Farther, we have the opportunity to reimagine the experience of managing wealth. By building better systems, we can empower advisors everywhere to focus on what is most valuable: the emotional relationship between people and their finances,” says Smith.
What’s Next
As Conragan and Smith lead Farther’s engineering and product teams, they will oversee advancement of the firm’s Intelligent Wealth Platform, the foundation for Farther’s growth as a generational financial institution serving high-net-worth individuals and their advisors. As clients increasingly expect a seamless approach to managing their finances, Farther continues to broaden what advisors can offer, from wealth management to asset management services.
